China's grassroots AIDS organizations making headway

AIDS Care China started off as a grassroots program in one hospital in Guangzhou in 2001 by Thomas Cai, himself HIV-positive. In the last five years, the program has expanded to four provinces, employing 32 full-time staff. In this time, over 2500 people have received help from AIDS Care China.

AIDS Care China provides a wide array of services including employment for HIV-infected individuals and education and awareness-raising around AIDS. As well, AIDS patients and their families who come from other areas for treatment are given counselling, free accomodation, and meals.
