In the 1980's and 1990's, AIDS sufferers were the victims of rampant discrimination in North America. With the initial association of AIDS with the homosexual community, a highly marginalized group during this time, AIDS sufferers were often the targets of violence and hate. However, with a greater education of the public, times seem to have changed dramatically. It has become more socially and legally unacceptable to discriminate against AIDS sufferers.
