Those links that were posted by one of the readers is quite out of date. I would say that most people today would agree that HIV impairs the immune system and as a result AIDS eventually develops. However, because of the many social issues surrounding AIDS, there is the discussion that AIDS is not really causing the deaths. Rather poverty and illnesses of poverty such as TB cause the deaths and if we alleviated the social conditions than we would decrease the number of people dying from AIDS.
